Passwords

This Fall, OU IT implemented a new University-wide Password Policy that aligns OU user password requirements with industry standards for increased cybersecurity.http://OUHSC.EDU Staff, Faculty, Student, and Sponsored Accounts

New password requirements:

Minimum of 12 characters
Cannot be the same as your user ID or previous six passwords
At least one uppercase AND one lowercase letter
At least one numeral OR one symbol
Must be changed at least every 365 days

Next Steps for OUHSC.EDU Accounts

Users will receive their usual password expiration notices as their 90-day cycle expires. These emails will come from servicedesk@ouhsc.edu with the subject: "Password Expiration Notification." New passwords will be subject to the updated password requirements.
Users that wish to change their passwords now will not have to change again for 365 days. Please see more information on the following page: https://ou.edu/ouit/password.

The updated OU IT Password Policy was approved in 2020 after stakeholder feedback through the IT Policy, Standard, & Procedure (PSP) Program.
