This Fall, OU IT implemented a new University-wide Password Policy that aligns OU user password requirements with industry standards for increased cybersecurity.http://OUHSC.EDU Staff, Faculty, Student, and Sponsored Accounts

New password requirements:

  • Minimum of 12 characters
  • Cannot be the same as your user ID or previous six passwords
  • At least one uppercase AND one lowercase letter
  • At least one numeral OR one symbol
  • Must be changed at least every 365 days

Next Steps for OUHSC.EDU Accounts

  • Users will receive their usual password expiration notices as their 90-day cycle expires. These emails will come from servicedesk@ouhsc.edu with the subject: "Password Expiration Notification." New passwords will be subject to the updated password requirements.
  • Users that wish to change their passwords now will not have to change again for 365 days. Please see more information on the following page: https://ou.edu/ouit/password.

The updated OU IT Password Policy was approved in 2020 after stakeholder feedback through the IT Policy, Standard, & Procedure (PSP) Program.
