Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS)

SMS is a tool that provides a comprehensive solution for change and configuration management for the Microsoft platform. A Tier 1 can use SMS to provide relevant software and updates to users quickly and cost-effectively. SMS provides the following key capabilities : Application Deployment; Asset Management; Security Patch Management; Mobility; Windows Management Services Integration; Integrating Operations and Technology.

IT will provide SMS access to Tier1’s that have been trained in SMS. The procedure and information for getting access to SMS are below.

At least one individual from each department must obtain formal SMS training.
Each department will incur the cost of training.
Train-the-trainer is acceptable for departments with multiple Tier1’s. However, at least one individual must have obtained formal SMS training. The departmental trainer will be responsible for first line support questions.
