File Archive

The HSC archiving system frees up space in your email and shared file storage ("Newmoon") folder by moving older items to a long-term storage area in the HSC network.  All types of information in your email and Newmoon folders can be stored in the vault, including mail messages and attachments, documents, spreadsheets, images and eVoice voicemail.  Archiving runs automatically at set times and archives items according to an archiving strategy defined by the University.

In order to make this transition as smooth as possible, Information Technology is suggesting that users clean up their Newmoon personal folder (if you have one) of unwanted or unneeded files.  Please follow the University Records Retention Policy and Schedule to determine retention requirements for University records that may be stored in your Newmoon folders.   In addition, please refer to the Acceptable Use Policy  for information on the kinds of messages and files that should and should not be on campus resources.

Items that are archived are stored in an area called a vault. Items from the folders in your email or Newmoon folder that meet the archiving rules are archived in a vault created just for you automatically.  The contents of the vault are structured in folders that reflect the structure of folders in your email or Newmoon folder.

When the system archives an item, it creates a shortcut to this item in the vault. More detailed information on Newmoon file archiving will be posted here and in knowledgebase articles in coming weeks.
